An ongoing research and illustration project to document all notable examples of brutalism and post-war modernism in the Teesside area.
Built in an era of reconstruction, many of them were designed as communal or civic buildings by planners and architects driven by socialist ideals, and their presence is reminder of that optimist outlook. By researching and illustrating them faithfully I’m helping to preserve the memory of the buildings and their place in the community before they’re all demolished.
The illustrations are made using technical pens and architectural illustration methods appropriate for the era when the buildings were built, and will be collected in a catalogue.
